"Filming for The Simple Life, in which she stars with hotel heiress Paris Hilton, has been postponed.
The socialite daughter of Lionel Richie has dominated magazine headlines because of her frail figure.
Richie's publicist, Nicole Perna, insists she does not have anorexia and just needs to focus on nutrition.
"It is important to Nicole that she achieves this goal in a healthy way as this is not a treatment for an eating disorder," she said.
"She is working with a team of doctors and specialists," she added.
Despite media speculation, Richie has repeatedly denied she is suffering from an eating disorder. She has however publicly admitted to dramatic weight loss.
The 25-year-old recently told Vanity Fair magazine she knew she was "too thin" and "wasn't happy with the way she looked".
People magazine reported she blamed her weight loss on stress after the break up with her former fiance Adam Goldstein.
A spokesman for 20th Century Fox said: "We wish her a speedy recovery and fully expect the series will resume production at some point, hopefully in the near future."'
