2009: Top 10 female debuts of South Cinema









South Indian screen, they say, is the friendliest celluloid terrain for a beautiful face to plan her debut. In South India, the demand for new faces is never-ending, and fans are ever-eager to applaud in new glamazons and even build temples for them. Here are the 10 debuts of 2009, that were registered on the B.O. Richter!

Shamili


Shamili, sister of Shalini Ajith, made her debut as a heroine with 'Oye' (Telugu), opposite Siddharth. Both the performance and the film were received well.

Karthika


Karthika, daugher of Yesteryear glamazon Radha, has a long way to go before she can emulate her mother's success in tinsel town. Or, so it seems! Karthika debuted with 'Josh', co-starring Akkineni Nag Chaitanya in the lead. A bad script and dubbing did not do her any good.

Sameera Reddy

Sameera Reddy, one of the hottest bods in Bollywood, made her debut in Tamil with Goutham Menon's 'Vaaranam Aayiram'. The film showcased the histrionic talents of the Rajamundhry-born actor and definitely boosted her career. She is currently working for Ajith's 'Asal'.

Farzana

This choreographer-turned-actress debuted in Tamil with the Sarathkumar starrer, '1977'. Though the film bombed at the B.O., Farzana oozed oomph on the screen and gave tough competition to glam queen Namitha.

Nicole

This gorgeous Kannada actress debuted in Tamil with 'Adada Enna Azhagu', co-starring Jai Akash in the lead. Though the film did not did as well as was expected, her onscreen energy and charm had Kollywood sit up and take notice.

Ananya

Ananya played the female lead opposite 'Subrahmanyapuram' Sasikumar in her debut movie 'Nadodigal'. She trekked quite effortlessly through the tough emotional terrain of a unique character, and effected one of the most memorable debut performances of recent times.

Rupa Manjari

Rupa Manjari debuted with 'Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru', directed by Nandhini. In the film, she plays an eccentric, and has done a great job with it.

Kaniha

Kaniha debuted in Malayalam with Sathyan Anthikkad's hit movie 'Bhagya Devatha'. She followed it up with the blockbuster, 'Pazhassi Raja'. Her performance in the film has been very highly rated by the industry.

Roopika

Roopika debuted in films with 'Cheluvina Chilipili' in Kannada. In this sentimental love story by S Narayan, she was paired opposite Pankaj.

Spoorthy

Spoorthy made her debut with the hit film, 'Jolly Days', by MD Sridhar. A remake of Telugu hit 'Happy Days', the movie starred Yogish in the lead.
