Shakira performed live “Waka Waka” at opening ceremony of 2010 FIFA world Cup at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa. The ceremony which lasted for whole three hours featured various performances besides Shakira’s Waka Waka. Waka Waka is the official song for this tournament and Shakira was chosen to sing it, surely there could not be any better choice than Shakira for this job. Shakira along with local South African famous group Freshlygroup sang the song in two languages i.e. English and Spanish. The song is based on another African soldiers’ song Zangalewa.

It was not like that as Shakira was alone there on stage to perform but there were many other famous singers like Alicia Keys and Black Eyed Peas who performed on stage.

The event was started at 8PM local time and it was broadcasted live on television. The famous television sports channels broadcasted the ceremony live for soccer fans in different parts of the world. The opening match will be played today between South Africa and Mexico and like the opening ceremony this match is also to go on air live for the whole world. The South African cricket team is there in West Indies busy playing test series with them but there hearts are in their own country where the world’s biggest sport event is started. Captain Greame Smith wished his team a very best of luck for the event and said that he also wanted to be there in his own country to support his team.

Shakira’s Waka Waka video lasts just two minutes but this time was enough for Shakira to show her magnificence performance among the audience and her fans. The song was actually the anthem of tournament and there is just one song for the soccer lovers to sing and that is “Waka Waka”.
